Spiritual Direction What is Spiritual Direction? You may have heard someone you know speak about having a spiritual director and may have wondered what that was all about. Spiritual direction/companioning is a ministry that offers the opportunity to reflect on your life, its events, your relationship with The Divine and others with someone trained and qualified for this ministry. This ministry presumes that Spirit communicates with all of us through our ordinary, human experiences. The focus is not counseling or problem solving but rather the directee’s experience of The Divine. The director helps the person to notice The Divine’s movement, invitations, urgings and confirmations. GIFTS OF SPIRITUAL DIRECTION You might come to spiritual direction for a variety of reasons. They may include:
Spiritual direction really is not about being “directed.” Rather, it is very much about being encouraged to draw closer to the mystery that we call God. Spiritual direction invites you into this relationship whether you attend a church, mosque, synagogue, temple, or none of these. The Divine seeks you where you are. The privilege and responsibility of a spiritual director is to journey with you as you deepen your relationship with The Divine. The journey takes place in the context of confidential, one-on-one sessions with your spiritual director. You and your spiritual director will agree on a convenient location and time for meeting, usually once a month for an hour. Fees are based on a sliding scale (a suggested offering is $40-$60). *
