Origin
and history of Reiki
Throughout
human evolution, many cultures have believed in the existence
of a life force energy permeating all things. Although they have
called it different names such as chi, prana, or sekhem, each
culture has learned - and sometimes forgotten - how to use this
subtle energy for healing purposes.
Reiki was rediscovered
and developed into its modern form by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Usui
set out on a personal quest to uncover the healing techniques
used by ancient masters.and traveled throughout Japan, China
and Europe in pursuit of this knowledge.
In 1914, Usui
entered a Buddhist monastery where he trained intensely. Eventually
he returned to Mt. Kurama, Japan where he studied as a boy to
make a twenty-one day retreat. Toward the end of this retreat
in March 1922, he experienced a light-vision in which he received
Reiki energy and symbols in the form of an attunement. Thus was
born the Usui System of Natural Healing, a spiritual science
and practice. |
