Peace Walk
CHANGE IN LABYRINTH WALK &
POTLUCK SUPPER! Join Buddhist Peace Walkers as they journey from Atlanta to the Y12 nuclear plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Nipponzan Myohoji monks became involved with the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance in 1992 and led the first peace walk from Atlanta to Oak Ridge in 1999. The 330-mile walk travels through northern Georgia and western North Carolina, ending in Oak Ridge. The Atlanta-based group is building a Peace Pagoda in Newport, Tennessee which is designed to provide a focus for people of all races and creeds to help unite them in their search for world peace. The ultimate purpose of the pagoda, according to Sister Denise Laffan, is to awaken goodness in the hearts of everyone who sees it. "We offer it as a gift to the whole world as a beacon for peace." Cedar Hill is inviting the community to come and walk the labyrinth on July 19 (or prior to the date), to symbolically show support for the Peace Walkers as they journey across the state. A guest book will be available for signing after you walk the labyrinth which will be offered to Brother Gyoshu Utsumi and Sister Denise Laffan to carry with them. The group plans to share information on the evening of July 19 about their mission - details to follow. For information regarding the order's Atlanta dojo, please visit http://www.peacepagoda.org/SmokyMountain/index.html The labyrinth at Cedar Hill is a modified seven circuit style set outdoors under two large oak trees. We welcome everyone. Walks are free, donations appreciated. For more information: contact Kat Stratton at 770-887-0051 or www.cedarhillenrichment.org
