Bridging communication barriers between seniors and their care givers and families

In 3 Wednesday Sessions: July 19, July 26 & August 16

July 19: Beginning the Dialogue:
** Learning to support yourself through transition and change
** Making decisions about comfortable last stages
** When and how to begin intergenerational conversations, including hands-on exercises managing emotional resistance
** Dealing with depression
** Involvement of family members
Facilitator: Caroline Dott, Ph.D., LCSW, CG P is a Midlife Specialist, and Professional Speaker in private practice in Atlanta. A specialist in family dynamics and in the recognition and management of trans-generational depression and anxiety, Dr. Dott brings 35 years of experience to adults, couples, families and groups.

July 26: Continuing the dialogue: Later stages
** You will be guided through conversation and experiences about -
** Creating a safe space for sharing intimate thoughts
** Tools for effective listening
** Active listening
** Loss and transition
** New ways of looking at the final stage of life
Facilitator: Patty Burgess is the Community Educator with Healthfield Hospice, an Atlanta-based home care and hospice company serving five states in the Southeast. Patty serves as a volunteer for, is on the board of, and is a certified trainer for Compassion in Action/Twilight Brigade.

August 16: Legal concerns - What is new/What has changed?
** Medical Capacity vs. Legal Competency - Differences & Distinctions
** Levels of legal Capacity required for specific legal documents

Facilitator: Victoria l. Collier, Esq. is the founder of the Elder and Disability Law Firm of Victoria L. Collier, PC. She is a highly-respected community educator for families and healthcare professionals on issues surrounding aging and disability.

Your day includes lunch, afternoon session (noon-4pm) and take home material.

All sessions include question & answer periods. Cost is $40.00 per session or $100 for all three sessions (non-refundable). Registration required.
